The 1940s comes to Salford

The Willows

Residents at The Willows Care Home in Salford went back in time when a group of students from The Arden School of Theatre at The Manchester College gave them a special performance of songs from the golden era of musical theatre.

The students, who are studying on the BA Musical Theatre course showcased their talents with a selection of musical theatre songs from the golden era of the 1940s and 50s.

Marta Czastka, activities co-ordinator The Willows said: “We are very happy to welcome the students here today, the residents love music. We have residents who are in the late stage of dementia and music is the best way to reach them. I always use CDs during my activities but having live music is so much better.”

Student, Jennifer Hughes, said: “It’s been really rewarding. It made you realise how you can make someone happy by singing.”

The visit to The Willows came on the third day of Be Amazing Manchester Week, which has seen students from The Manchester College travelling around Manchester on their Be Amazing bus, putting their skills to the test supporting local communities.
